falling petals

The last days of my pink tulips ... still beautiful even though their petals are beginning to fall and their stems are drooping.

Have a good weekend! Stay warm.

belles lettres

There's something romantic about a handwritten letter ... especially if you're using an antique pen and ink. Somehow I can't imagine Mr. Darcy's letter to Elizabeth Bennett having the same effect if it was texted or emailed. :)

old books

I like collecting old books. Not just any old book ... there has to be some kind of connection. I'm partial to blue books but I'll buy other colours if there's something special about it.  My favourite books are the ones with inscriptions in the fly leaf.  Inscriptions like ....

"To Dr. Arthur -
With the Seasons most cordial greetings.
H.E.
Xmas '17"

Don't you wonder who Dr. Arthur was?  An elderly gentleman?  Or neighbour perhaps?  Was H.E. a man or a woman?  WWI was still on that Christmas of 1917 so perhaps H.E. was a soldier fortunate enough to have returned home.  I like books that have been read and loved.

They look pretty stacked and tied with ribbon too.  I like photographing books and using them as props.  I always take a lot of photos, trying different angles and locations.

Have a wonderful weekend!

faking it

About this time, I really start missing my garden. I was able to pick roses right up until December and with all the Christmas decorations that were scattered around, along with a poinsettia or two, I never gave my garden much thought. Until now. I miss running outside to pick whatever's in bloom. So until spring rolls around (or until my local superstore runs a special on flowers) I'm faking it and using silk flowers to fill my vases.

I'd like to send a huge thank you to my dear friend Sherry (Everyday Possibilities) for the wonderful interview she posted today featuring my photography!  Sherry has an amazing blog that should definitely be on your "must read" list.

fresh beginnings

"... isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?"
~ Anne of Green Gables

I love new beginnings, don't you?  Not only are we at the beginning of a new year but also a new decade.  Exciting things ahead!

My day is getting off to a much later start than I had planned.  We switched phone services today and found ourselves unable to receive calls (though we could make them) and no internet!  That was unexpected.  So everything that I had planned to do today has been pushed back until tomorrow.  C'est la vie!
