Lilac time

I love lilacs.   I've managed to squeeze six lilac bushes into my tiny garden and when they're all blooming, the fragrance is wonderful!

The doubles seem to last longer as cut flowers.  Someone once told me to remove all the leaves before putting them in a vase because the leaves take the water away from the flowers.  Lilacs don't make the best cut flowers but I can't resist bringing a few inside and removing the leaves really works.  They'll last 4-5 days without the leaves.  I cut a few branches with just leaves to tuck into the arrangement.

Sadly, the lilacs have already faded.  I always want them to last longer but maybe if they did, I wouldn't appreciate them as much.  It's a long wait until next Spring!

  4. I'm not sure if I've ever seen doubles before. I probably have but just don't recall. Your photos are so light and airy. I often try to get the same effect with my own photos but they come out dark. Maybe because I'm using a laptop.

You're right, it is a long time until next spring! And June passes like lightening *sigh*

  7. Oh sooo LOVELY! I just adore lilacs, and wish they lasted longer. We have a very old while lilac in our garden, and it's always a joy to see in bloom. This spring though we were away during much of it's glory so feel we missed it... The blooms are heading well to the wayside now. Until next year then, we wait again... Your photos really capture the magic of lilacs, Lynda! Happy Days ((HUGS))

  8. You shall have to frame and hang a few of these romantic pictures to have your lilacs last. They truly are delightful...the only problem is that you'll have to use for imagination to recreate the scent.
