Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire ... it is the time for home. ~ Edith Sitwell

While I'll be the first to admit that winter isn't exactly my favourite season, I enjoy the indoor warmth that winter brings.  I like lighting candles each night before dinner, having quilts and throws everywhere to wrap up in when I feel a chill, and enjoying comfort foods like soups and stews.

The weeks leading up to Christmas tend to be busy ones.  I know my "to do" list grows longer every day.  This year I'm going to try, really try, to slow down and enjoy the journey instead of rushing through the preparations.

Tell me what you enjoy the most about winter or what you love most about the days before the holidays.

Happy December!

  1. My heart swoons at your image ~ how perfectly delightful!
There is so much that I love ~ the coziness of home, the snow covered landscape and spending time with family. Homemade soups and stews, how the scent of baking breads and treats greets you when coming inside from the cold outdoors and the heavenly aroma of fresh brewed coffee ... the list could go on and on.
A Happy December to you to!

  2. This is my most favourite time of year. Well, from October to the end of December. It is such a comforting time, for all of the reasons you so beautifully described.

    Gorgeous photo!

  3. Lynda, this year I'm having a little bit of a snag getting into the Christmas spirit but I still like the thought of it all even though it can be daunting. Your photos are always beautiful and still my heart when I see them. Carol

  4. Your photography...oooohhhh...I just want to have a book of it that I can enjoy. Ever thought of that?

My mother is making haddock chowder for supper with some wonderful whole wheat rolls. We'll have some ice cream for dessert and then watch a Christmas movie this evening. It's one of the things I love about this time of year. Hope you find a way to pace yourself...so important if we're going to enjoy the holidays!

  5. I must admit I like winter in the run up to Christmas as it's alwaysso exciting. However, it's the winter months afterwards that I don't like as they just seem to drag on for ages when I just want spring to arrive.

  6. A quintessential winter image, Lynda. It's so timeless and nostalgic and peaceful. I'm glad you are taking time to enjoy the holiday preparations. I'm afraid I'm the same – rushing through to get done and suddenly it's over. Will take a clue from you to slow it down! – g

  7. Rebecca, you've listed some of my favourite things! There's so much to enjoy ... I'll try to remember that next time I'm grumbling about the cold and snow. :)

Jaime, I love this time of year too.

Carol, the holidays can definitely be overwhelming! I hope you can find some time to enjoy them. Thanks so much for your kind words.

Vee, maybe someday there'll be a book ... I have to confess that it's one of my dreams. Watching Christmas movies is one of my favourite things too ... we've got quite a collection of them!

    Thank you, Tammy!

Photo Puddle, once Christmas is over, I get impatient for spring too.

G., it's hard slowing down ... especially when there's so much to be done! We can do this!! :)
