It's great to once again be able to step outside and cut fresh herbs from my garden to flavour my cooking. One of my all time favourite herbs to use is chives. I love their light onion-y flavour and most of all, their beautiful purple flowers. I used to make chive blossom vinegar. I think I liked how it looked even more than its flavour. Maybe I'll make some again ... next year! :)
I also like to make little bouquets of chive blossoms for the kitchen, either in mason jars or small pitchers. They look (and smell!) fresh and add a touch of country.
Do you grow and use herbs? Do you have a herb garden or do you just tuck them into your garden wherever you can, like I do?
Hi Lynda! Oh, this is a fabulous color! Beautiful images that are so fresh and happy. I don't grow herbs but always want to. And chives would be one of the first, along with dill. Thank you for the update, dear. So glad you are taking photos and sharing here. xoxo
ReplyDeleteDill would be a great addition ... if only there was more room! lol!
DeleteWe love having chives, dill, parsley and cilantro- sometimes you only need a couple of sprigs, and you have to buy so much at the store.
ReplyDeleteChive blossom vinegar is so flavorful, easy to make, and pretty. Perhaps there's still time. Love the photography as always. You have a uniquely wonderful eye. When it stops raining long enough, we hope to get our little herb corner going. The chives are actually sitting in a mound waiting to be transplanted.
ReplyDeleteI hope the rain stops soon Vee!
DeleteIt's wonderful to read a post, Lynda. Chives are one of my favorite herbs to use and admire. I too made chive vinegar and loved the pink color in pretty bottles. After moving last August, I can finally start growing the herbs and flowers I love so much. For the time being I'll tuck them into the flower beds, but someday I'll have a little herb again.
ReplyDeleteYour chive photos are so lovely and dreamy that they make anxious to start growing them again.
I hope things are going well for you and your family.
Thanks Teresa!
DeleteBelieve it or not, I have never cooked with chives! My mom might have but I don't recall if she did. What type of food would this herb go with? Pasta, fish, or meat dishes. I know my mom loved her vinegar but I think it was all store bought! The flower heads are beautiful and of course you have captured them so nicely.
ReplyDeletePrayers for continued good days.
I use chives with eggs, potatoes, pastas and sauces. They're not as overpowering as onion so are perfect for summer recipes.
DeleteThanks for your continued prayers Shirley! xo
It is so good to see you back to blogging. I continue to pray for you and your husband on this journey. Really love your chive images...and yes, that is the only herb still growing in my garden, planted some 20 years ago.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deanna!
DeleteLove chives. Love your photo's. I just planted chives last week since I had to leave all of my plants when we moved from London.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know you'd moved Maggie! Where are you living now?
DeleteIt is so good to find you back here Lynda!
ReplyDeleteI have missed you.
These photographs are so beautiful. I absolutely love what you did with the first one.
I use a lot of basil in cooking, so there is always lots of that growing here in the summertime. It tastes so much better when it is just fresh-picked.
Sending you wishes for a wonderful day ahead! xo.
Thanks Lisa! I love basil too ... and I agree, there's nothing like fresh picked!
DeleteOh Lynda! i did not even know chives have such beautiful flowers! i love the photos as always; i have been a way for a while, it’s nice to come here and catch up with all your gorgeous work all at once :)
ReplyDeletei absolutely love the idea of a herb garden; i’d need a garden to start with, but i do love the idea!!
Hi Lynda! I love chives and I try to grow some chives in my flowerbed, but neighbor cats do best to destroy them! :D I like your photos <3 They are so lovely. I hope that someday I could take as good photos as you do.
