Welcome 2012!

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a lovely holiday.  As expected, ours was very quiet but really, really nice.  Not having time to do it all this year, I picked what I felt where the most important bits and focused on them.  Keeping the holidays simpler made them so much more enjoyable ... something I'm going to try to remember for next year.  Now I'm ready to get back into some sort of routine although I'm finding it just a little bit difficult ... I'm so far behind and don't quite know where to start!  It feels like I've been away forever!

I'm always excited about a new year, aren't you? So many possibilities! It's like starting off with a clean slate. You'll notice my blog looks a lot different ... this is something I was working on before my Mom got sick and I was able to finish it up last weekend.  I was ready for something cleaner, lighter, simpler ... and I really missed having a sidebar.  I may or may not add a photo to the banner ... right now I like it just the way it is.  There are still a few things that need to be tweaked but I'm almost there.

Did you make any resolutions?  Set any goals?  I didn't this year.  I didn't choose a word for the year either.  Every January I make these lofty goals and by February reality sets in.  So this year I decided my only "goal" was to enjoy doing what I do.  Every day.  Every minute.  That should be easy because I already enjoy what I do!  And hopefully I'll be able to do more of it.

Now I realize that pomegranates have absolutely nothing to do with this post but they're one of my favourite treats for the holidays so of course I had to photograph them before eating them.  The seeds look like tiny red jewels, especially against the white dishes, and I love their tartness ... so refreshing after all the sweets that I've indulged in lately.

Thanks for joining me on my journey ... I'm so glad you're here!  Wishing you the best year ahead ever ... Happy 2012!  xo

  1. Oh, your photos may not have anything to do with your post, but they are a delight for the eyes. Love that bright red against the white. Happy New Year and welcome back!!

  2. I'm loving your new blog layout, Lynda! Everything looks great! In fact it's quite similar to mine. I too went with basic colors, except for the header. Yours looks fine without a picture. And that darn sidebar really is a necessity! I couldn't stand not having one.

Wonderful images, as always. For some reason I never eat pomegranates but they certainly are wonderful to photograph! Happy New Year my friend!

  3. I enjoyed seeing the pomegranates throughout...little rubies to enjoy against the white. It looks beautifully serene here and that's something you are looking for I know...some good old-fashioned calm. I like your resolution. I think it's the very best sort of a one.

  4. So glad you're back, Lynda! How is your mom? I took care of my dad back in the 90s, so I truly understand how difficult it is to take care of your parent.

I love the new look of your blog~~it's very clean and sophisticated. I've been tweaking my blog, too, but it's still a work in progress.

I know what you mean by being behind! I've already overcommitted myself to all things photographic and Photoshop :~/

I haven't made a New Year's Resolution for years~~I just have along list of things I want and need to do. If I can accomplish just a few, I'll be happy.

I've never chosen a Word before, but I did this year, in response to one of Kim Klassen's posts. I came up with a lot of Words, but there are all encompassed by Hope, so that's my Word.

The pomegranate photos are delectable~~I think I'll buy one today :~)

  10. Your blog looks great! I also recently cleaned up the look of my layout. I was inspired by the pastel colors of Donna Hay magazine's font colors. ;) Your pom photos are just gorgeous, Lynda! Love that red color! All the best to you for the new year!!!

  12. Happy New Year, Lynda! LOVE the streamlined, elegant look here. And all the juicy jewel-red of the pomegranates sing all the more for the simple layout. I like your approach to the new year, and keeping that simple to by focusing on every day joys. I'll be doing the same. I have a few plans, and hope to share more on those next week, but really just daily like is gift and goal enough. :o) Wishing you all the best, my friend ((HUGS))

  13. Like you I always seem to make my own resolutions then stress a bit because I can't do everything I thought I could. There is something about getting back to basics and enjoying the simple things in life. This year I decided to not set any resolutions, just a few goals or ideas that I might want to tackle. If I am able to acomplish some, thats great, if not, no presure. There is always next month. Love the clean, bright layout, nice. Wishing you and yours a wonderful new year.

  14. Love your new blog, so beautiful in it's simplicity. I agree fully with you. I always set out with so many goals and resolutions but in the end resort to appreciating the simple joys of the everyday, focusing on the here and now is perhaps the most important goal of all!
