In the garden ... peonies

Like lilacs, peonies are one of those flowers that I wish would last longer. Mine lasted a little more than a week, but they were oh so beautiful!! Yesterday's rain finished them off and now all that's left is a pile of petals that needs raking.

It doesn't matter how many photos I take of them; I always wish I'd taken just one more. It's such a long wait until next year!!

This soft pink and white peony is one we transferred from my Mom's garden last fall.  It only had half a dozen blooms this year but it's so pretty and delicate.

I brought in huge bouquets of these pink peonies and placed them everywhere!  I was determined to enjoy them before the rain finished them off.

Thank you for the lovely comments you've left on my last couple of posts.  I'm sorry that I haven't gotten around to visiting and replying to you but a bad bout of bronchitis has left me behind once again.  I'm feeling better but my energy level just hasn't come back yet.  Hopefully some sunshine and warm weather will soon help.

Enjoy this lovely first weekend of summer!

  1. If we can get some constant sunshine, that will help bring your energy level back up!!

Love these photographs Lynda! Peonies are one of my most favourite flowers but as you said they just don't last long and then a heavy rain and they are "done".

  2. They do come and go oh so quickly. It breaks my heart. And the rain ... arrgghhh! It has destroyed most of my flowers! I just want sunshine!

Your photos are gorgeous, Lynda! Fabulous styling as always.

  3. I hope you're feeling better soon! Your peony photos are so gorgeous (I especially love the shot with the perfume bottle and necklace). I just adore the beautiful scent of peonies. We were visiting my parents' home last month while they were in bloom, and my mom placed a large bouquet in the guest room just for us... bliss!

  5. Yes, just about a week and then they're too soon gone and oh the mess they leave behind! Still, it's worth it to have them bloom and be so gorgeous even for a short time. So glad that your transplanted one did well.

As for you, you need some tea and time out with a good book. Hope that the weather warms for you. We've been in the fridge again all week...very dampening to the spirits.

  9. What beautiful photographs these are Lynda!
Our peonies are all gone now, but they put on a pretty amazing show in spite of a lot of not so nice weather.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend!

  10. So sorry you've been unwell, Lynda... hoping very much you'll be better soon to enjoy the summer now! I had bronchitis last July, it was awful, I feel like I missed the whole of the month, so understand how you are feeling. LOVE the peonies... so wish peony time lasted longer too...*sigh*...
